Seedling Nursery Production Supervisor Grower-01011266
This position reports to the Washington Regeneration Manager of Weyerhaeuser's Western Regeneration business and is based at the Mima Nursery, located south of Olympia, WA. This is a full-time position, which is part of a team that produces bare-root and container seedlings at our Mima, WA and Rochester, WA nurseries for internal and external customers.

The successful candidate will be a member of the seedling growing team with the responsibility to implement technology and reliable processes to improve quality, consistency, and cost.
•Provide daily leadership and supervision of company and contract crews performing nursery activities associated with seedling production including sowing, transplanting, irrigation, growing, inventory, frost protection, and harvest.
•Role model safe work practices and ensure safety rules are followed.
•Lead safety and other team meetings.
•Follow and document reliable processes for safety, quality, production, and costs.
•Ensure compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
•Understand seed and seedling quality specs and leverage key points for seedling yield, cost and performance.
•Effectively prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines.
•Balance labor resources to ensure continuous improvement in safety, quality, production and costs.
•Manage procedures for collecting, documenting, communicating, and recordkeeping of safety, quality, production and cost data.
•Perform ‘crop walks’ to observe crop health and yield issues.
•Effectively communicate and coordinate responsibilities with peers and team members.
•Share administrative responsibilities including employee, payroll, purchasing, and training records.
•College graduate with background in Forestry, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture or related fields with a working knowledge of seedling biology or physiology or at least four years of experience in related field.
•Genuine interest in personal and career development and desire to function as a grower with responsibility for prescribing and documenting seedling growing and protection practices and results.
•Must possess leadership skills that include a proven ability to coach employees to a higher level of performance.
•Able to plan and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
•Good planning, organizational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
•Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
•Demonstrate good observation and problem solving skills.
•Strong value systems and ethics demonstrated in fair treatment of all people.
•Work well as a team member with shared responsibilities – flow to work mindset.
•Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.
•Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license and supervise related activities.
•Flexible availability regarding days and hours of work during seasonal activities.
•Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position including working both indoors and outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and on uneven working surfaces.
•Possess driver’s license.
•Ability to be at the nursery within 30 minutes
•Understand the types and safe legal use of chemicals used for seedling growing and protection.
•Familiar with the operation of nursery equipment.
•Ability to communicate in Spanish.
